      KC winners

      Bart,

Kornblum was awarded the KC on 9 June 1944 as an Oberleutnant and Staffelfuhrer of 4./KG 53 for his over 400 successful missions with the II./KG 53 "Legion Condor". He then became a night fighter with the 9./NJG 2. Killed in action on 27.11.44 near the island of Juist in the explosion of a shot down British mine-laying bomber.

      At least 1 night victory.

      Cheers

      Jeremy

        KC winner

        Bart,

Keppler was awarded the KC on 20 August 1942 as Major and Gruppenkommodore of III./KG 1 "Hindenburg". Shot down and killed on 3 September 1942 while attacking Russian troops near Mga. It appears his Ju88 was hit by Flak and exploded in the air.

Also lost were his crew Oberfeldwebel Windisch, Feldwebel Niersberger and Feldwebel Schubert.

There is also an extensive write up with photos on Keppler in Ralf Schumann's "Die Ritterskreuztrager 1939-1945 Des KG1 "Hindenburg".

        Cheers

        Jeremy

            Hello,
Indeed Hans Keppler was awarded the Ritterkreuz after his heroic action in Posh pocket in Russia where thousand of german soldiers were trapped by russian. He was then decorated in august 1942 but died 3 september crashing with a stuka during a mission over russia. There are few lines in the magazine Der Adler number 23 at section "how they get their RK". But the magazine I know is in french version for french edition during ww2.
            Kind regards
            Gildas
