Thanks hucks216, I've already viewed these web sites. I was hoping to find out if any elements of this unit avoided capture at Stalingrad.

You have to distinguish between the unit or unit elements and individuals. The abteilung as a unit was completely destroyed at Stalingrad however members did survive through being wounded and evacuated or for other reasons were not with the unit once it became impossible to rejoin it, ie. on course or leave.

According to Sturmartillerie by Oberstleutnant Tornau:

The Abteilung however was lost in the cauldron of Stalingrad. The survivors of the batteries had settled in a cellar at Red Square. On 31.1.1943 they went to into Russian captivity.

The few survivors of the Abteilung, the wounded who had been flown out of the cauldron were supplied to Ersatz Abteilung 300 in Neiße/Upper Silesia then transferred to the newly formed Stug Abteilung 913. This Abteilung was renamed Stug Abteilung 177 and was never replaced. This was the third time the Abteilung had been formed.
