German submarine crew POW in British hands in Rimini
Dear friends of WAF:
My name is Juan Jaramillo Blasco. I'm an spaniard and I 48 years old. I'm with other friends of U-Historia Forum and directed by Emilio Umbría Cruz a Historical Investigation. After more than 8 years of research about his last hours of the German submarine U-617 and the events involving its crew, we are about to conclude our work we still lack some information we think you may be able to provide. According to our information the members of the crew were rescued in the Spanish part of current Morocco in September 1943, later interned first in Spain in La Carraca in Cádiz till the end of the war, and transferred to Gibraltar, according to the information given by the son of the commander of the submarine. They left Gibraltar on the HMS Antenor on 24/11/45 to Bari and from there they were sent to the prisoner or labour camp in Rimini, in the north of Italy.We would be very grateful if you could:
1- Tell us the arrival date of the crew to Bari, if they were some time in the camp there or they were directly sent to Rimini. How long did they remain in Rimini, when they were released, what did they do during the internment period.
2- Send us, in case there is any, some photographs of the camp in Rimini and of the crew.
3- Provide us with any official document or report from the camp related to the crew.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Yours faithfully;
Jan.
