SS-unit participate in the Horror of Oradour Sur Glane

    HI,

Does anybody know the ss unit who commited the warcrime at oradour sur glane?
Is it Regiment Das Führer from the 2nd ss panzergrenadier divison Das Reich.

That is what the books tell me, but why 2 cuffnames in one division?

    Any help would be appreciate.

    Best regards,

    Karel

    Hello,

It was not uncommon for Regiments or other smaller units within divisions to carry their own title, for example in the Das Reich division you had the Regiments Der Führer and Deutschland, who wore their own cufftitles. In the Nordland panzergrenadier division you had Regiment Norge and Danmark, who had their own cufftitles, but also the SS-Panzer-Abteilung 11, which was a part of Nordland, had its own title, "Hermann von Salza", and thus carried that name on their cufftitles.

The initial Waffen-SS division also included Regiment "Germania" that had a sleeve title, though the formation was not given the title "Das Reich" until after "Germania" was detached to serve as cade for the eventual "Wiking" division.

Das Reich div, Der Fuhrer Rgt, 1st batallion, 3rd company.
SS-Sturmbannführer Adolf Dieckmann (1912- Normandy june 29th 1944) and Hauptsturmführer Kahn (survived the war) were the main officers.
