I just obtained a cased Knight's Cross document for Oberstleutant Torsten Christ. He was Chief of the General Staff for the VIII Flight Corps located in the East. Can anyone give me more information about his unit and about him? Also the signature of Hitler is with an autopen. Can anyone comment as to when on this type of document the signature was changed from original to autopen? Thanking all responders in advance.Malcolm Katt(trexco)

Max,
Delighted you have this document. I first saw it in Louisville last year at Jason Burmeister's table. I had been looking for it for over 10 years as it is in one of
Angolia's books and I happen to own one of Oberst Christ's uniforms. I have been trying to research him for many years.
Here is some basic information:
CHRIST, Torsten
DoB : 3 February 1906
DoD : unknown but I hope to find out from the German archives
DKiG : 27/05/1942 as Obstlt. i.G. and Chef d.Gen.St. VIII. Fliegerkorps
RK : 21/10/1942 as Obstlt. i.G. same unit
He was also in the Spanish Civil War as he is pictured in one of the books. Also served as a Staff Officer there as well.
Interestingly, he was also a Blood Order winner (#227) ...
If you ever want to part with the document, be sure to let me know.
My best,
Mike Heuer

Here are the essentials on Torsten Christ. As an Oberst im Generalstab, he was one of the brains behind the generals, so many of whom were incompetent World War One pals of Hermann the Fat or Party political appointees. The handful of senior Luftwaffe officers with formal general staff training were the real brains who made things work when they did. According to one account (Mitcham, p.292), "Christ would have made general officer rank except for an aversion to flying, which resulted from an air accident which disfigured his face."
