Panzer-Aufklarungs-Abteilung 12 OOB

Im researching a WP of a funker in 1/Pz.A.A.12 in March-November 1944.

I take it that the 1st Company was the Panzer Spah Kompanie of the Battalion and id like to know what vehicles the unit would have been using at this stage? Ive looked in Jentz but not had much luck with the OOB of the Pz.A.Abt.

If it helps the soldier received extensive training in radio communications and was a qualified Funker, Panzerfunker, Tastfunker and Sprechfunker.

He was KIA on the 15.11.44 in Latvia but his name is not on the Volksbund register. His name has a u with the two dots on top, i know this sounds terribly thick but i do not know the proper name for this, and i was wondering whether typing an 'english' u will have an effect on the search results?

There you'll find scans of originaø divisional OOBs which will give you an indication of how the kompanie was equipped.

The u with two dots is an Umlaut and can be written as "ue" in substitution. The sound of the letter has little to do with the regular "u" sound.

You may know this but if you want to use German characters in your searches you can hold the Alt key down and type the appropriate number code using the number keypad to get the requried character.

I do not have a specific order of battle for Pz.Aufkl.Abt.12, but a few guesses would be: various SdKfz.250s (including the /08 and /09), various SdKfz.251s (including the SdKdz.251/09), SdKfz.234/01 through 03, SdKfz.140/1... All of these were used by various Aufklärungs units, but again since I do not have a specific breakdown I can't tell you for sure.

There are of course other possibilities, but all of the above mentioned vehicles would have been in service around the time your guy was KIA.
