Hello to all,

Would appreciate any info or source to pursue to get
an in-depth view of this man's life history. Highly
decorated, captured escorting Himmler in May 1945
and passing away at age 82 in 2001; there must be quite
a story here.

As far as J know Heinz Macher was "only" a Sturmbannführer. His wartime exploits are heavily described in the must for every WSS RK student , Die Ritterkreuzträger der Waffen SS, by E.G. Krätschmer.

There excist also some very interesting filmfootage showing Macher shortly after his capture.

Interesting enough he does not seem to be included in DAL 1.7.44

from Brün Meyer (Osnabück 1987)

the reason he is not inc. in DAL 1.7.44.

is that he was promoted to hstf. after that date . List only inc. hstf to obergruppenführer.


Quite remarkable as he was promoted twice in a very short time !!!!
