Ostfriesland: 18 Marine-Replacement Unit

Hello All:

I am looking for some leads as to how to gather more (any) information about the 18th Marine-Replacement Unit (sailors) fighting under Fregattenkapitän Frey against the II Canadian Corps (and/or Canadian 3rd Inf Div) and the 1st Polish Armoured Division around the town of Weener in late April (23-26??) of 1945.

Looking for info on the Kriegsmarine unit...personnel lists, etc... and specifics about Fregattenkapitän Frey.

Any pointers or research vectors would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have any info about any of the KM units ground fighting or other specifics about the battle around the town of Weener in late April 45?

Allied After-action reports for 3rd Canadian or 1st Polish Armoured Division might have some of the information you are looking for.

Richard Frey, born 17.4.1892 in Frankfurt a.M, promoted Fregattenkapitän 1 Apr.42 held a variety of land based posts during WWII including Kdr. of marine Schützen Btl.310 in oct.-nov.44 and Marine Ersatz Abteilung 18 from Dec.44 until the war's end.
