Marinestabsarzt Günther Feigs, Scharnhorst & U-591

I recently came across this photo, which appears to have "Günther Feigs" written on the back. According to Axis History, Marinestabsarzt Dr. Feigs had been on the Scharnhorst, and was on the U-591 when it was captured in 1943. In the interrogation report he said he had been on the U-591 to gain experience for his future work in Navy hospitals.

Assuming that what's written on the back does say Günther Feigs, and that the photo is indeed of this same Günther Feigs, does anyone have more info on him, or can tell me a way to find out more?

I don't know anything about Kriegsmarine uniforms; is there anything showing that says he would not have been a Marinestabsarzt?

The two kids sure don't look they're enjoying the wedding much!

    Best,
    Greg

      Hi Greg,

The back shows clearly the names Günther Feigs, Hilde Feigs.

The book : Der Sanitätsdiesnt in der deutschen U-Boot-Waffe, by Hartmut Nöldeke and Volker Hartmann do not give much information on your man.

On page 242 it only shows :
      U 591
      - MStA Dr. Günther Feigs, P.B. (Pers.Bericht) (by his own information).

I think that the information you have is the same as here:

      http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-591.htm

A Navy doctor, Marinestabsarzt Dr. Günther Feigs, was on board U-591 when she was sunk. He stated that he had been ordered to make the patrol with U-591 in order to gain experience for his future work in Navy hospitals.
