Hilberg reports Stahlecker died in '42. Could this, in fact, be a death photo?

Perhaps you have something concerning the date of photo not shown in your posted illustration. The illustration shows 1941-1942 which suggests a little more expansive time frame than simply 1941.

Moreover, this guy really does look dead, with his hands placed one over the other in repose.

That said, I'm prepared to be wrong.

A similar photo was taken of Fritz Weitzel when he was killed in a bombing raid.

I've seen those Weitzel photos in his SS file; they conclusively reveal that bomb fragments are not kind to the human body!

If only he'd stayed at work in Oslo. Would have bought him another five years, at least. Which reminds me- I've also seen a photo of Terboven's pitiful and grotesque remains (another casualty of explosives).
