Friedrich Lengfeld was a German Leutnant who did get his fame during "Schlacht im Hürtgenwald". Born on 29th September 1921 in Grünwald and died on 12th November 1944 in Froitzheim. Cause of death: "Death because of Landmine" on minefield "Wilde Sau" in the Huertgenforest serving in the "Fusilier" Battalion 275th Infantry-Division as 2nd. CO.
Buried in the German waregrave Düren-Rölsdorf, grave 38.

On the 12th of November when Leutnant Friedrich Lengfeld was leading his unit, he heard a severe wounded American Soldier screaming for help who was lying in Nobodyland, between the two lines of the 2 forces, in the middle of a German minefield "Wild Boar".
The severe wounded soldier his unit (yet unknown) already pulled back, which is the reason why none of his unit heard him screaming for help.
Friedrich Lengfeld ordered his men not to shoot on any of the Allied rescues to try or reach and save the severe wounded soldier. But the rescues where the Germans aswell as the wounded soldier himself hoped on never came, where the severe wounded American Soldier screamed for help and of pain hour after hour. Till Friedrich Lengfeld himself found that it already took to long that nobody came and help him and that the soldier was lying there full of pain.
Friedrich made his own rescueforce to try and save the poor soldier that was lying full of pain in the middle of a German minefield in Nobodyland. The only problem was that the minefield also layed between Lengfeld and the severe wounded American soldier himself. That ment that Lengfeld had to go through all of the mines but Lengfeld never reached the severe wounded soldier. Friedrich Lengfeld stept on a mine while trying to reach and save the American Soldier. Friedrich Lengfeld recieved medical attention but it couldn't be, Friedrich Lengfeld died a couple hours later.
How it went further with the American Soldier is yet unknown, this all is based on eyewitness Hubert Gees, who was serving under Friedrich Lengfeld.
Friedrich Lengfeld lives in many German and American hearts also in the heart of the Huertgenforest. May Lengfeld rest in peace.
On Friedrich Lengfeld his memorial is written:
No man hath greater love than he who
layeth down his life for his enemy.
