Where was the rank Soldat used? Was it used only in the Wehrmacht?

Maybe I am wrong but the rank "Soldat" standing alone wasn´t used anywhere. Besides Schütze, Jäger, Kanonier etc.. I just can think of a Sanitätssoldat.
As I said I did not check that with my literature but..

It certainly was used and can be found in soldbucher. Amongst those i have it's written either as Soldat or Soldaten.

OK what branches used the rank Soldat then? I don´t mean the term Soldat. In the infantry it was a Schütze or later Grenadier, artillery Kanonier, signals Nachrichtensoldat, Funker etc..., tanks Panzerschütze etc...., ...

I believe it was a generic term but how and why it was used i don't know but perhaps during the recruit phase? For example in those soldbucher i have where it is used they are from a mix of branches, infanterie, pioniere etc.
