Any idea on the marking, I was thinking 21 G. ?

This is so carefully inscribed, I think it is very likely an " A ". What is the rest of the inscription?

That's it, here is another picture.

I read that as "A.G." but perhaps someone else can lend their opinion.

The only AG's in my glossaries are

~Abwehrgruppe................defense group
~Aktien-Gesellschaft..........limited company

neither of which make sense so perhaps they are simply the owner's initials.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with their opinions.

Mike is right. It´s A.G.
I would consider it´s the soldiers initials, rather than a unit´s marking...
May we have a look at the helmet cover?
