Info is scarce, just found (as You probably have already)
- FpNr 09351 as from Mobilmachung 1.1.40
- The FpNr was erased 20.11.44
There are some missing soldiers listed in the Vermisstenbildliste Band GE .
P.
Does anyone have information about this unit. Tessin and the Lexikon don't.
Jeff
Generally, there was just one AVA for each Heeresgruppe and one for each Armee. And they did not move from one Armee to another. I just spent 40 minutes checking through some folders and I can tell you AVA 570 did NOT belong to any of the following:
Heeresgruppe Mitte.
Militärbefehlshaber Frankreich.
AOKs 2, 6, 16 and 18.
Pz. AOKs 2 and 3.
The date of deletion for the FpN (20.11.44) strongly suggests it belong to an Armee that withdrew from France, perhaps 1, 7, 15, 19 or one of the others in the West summer 1944.
There are 3 or 4 NARA microfilms in Microcopy T-78 that identify all of these smaller that Btl./Abt. - size units, hundreds and hundreds of pages of them. These usually do not indicate locations, but they usually indicate the Heeresgruppe and Armee to which assigned.
Thanks Larry. I went through all the resources I had and couldn't find it listed in any of the Armee or Heeresgruppe. This is the unit my guy served with after being with the Heimatstab Deutschen Heeresmission In Rumanien and before serving in Feld-Ers. Btl 171 mention a in another post on this page. I had tried to narrow it down to anything in the Balkans but as mentioned in the other thread he had the Nahkampftagen listed in Hungary but the 171 was supposed to be the front line replacement unit for the 71 Inf. Div. in Italy. I realize conditions were chaotic near the end of the war but not knowing where the 570 was just adds to the who mystery of this man's units.
