Name in a cap, my best results so far..

I bought this cap of e-stand a couple of weeks ago, and it arrived today

I thought it would be to try and research the name in it..
The tag says:
Dr. med. Karl Renker
Arzt.
rüsselheim/ main
Bahnhoffstrasse 28

I tried searching on the name with google and found this:

I am 90% sure that this was the owner of the cap

The homepage of rüsselheim ruder-Klub, tells alot of his pre and postwar achivements, but not much about his service time..

It only says that he was a stabsarzt. captured by the americans, and realeased in 1945 from "Gefangenenlager in Bad Kreuznach"

The cap arrived today and after I had gone through it, I was happy to find a gepüft stamp in it

This is what I got for now, and this is were i need your help.. can anyone tell me about this unit??

I have no experience in researching, so if anyone sees anything that I have missed, please let me know?

I tried to receive more information on your doctor by some friends of mine living in the area of Rüsselsheim. But they were not able to find out some information on his military career. Sorry.

I.R. 115 belonged to the 35. Inf.Div. to the end of 1940 or so. Followed all of the links on Lexikon and you will find more:

As your guy was from Rüsselsheim it was easy for him to join the army I.R. 115 at Darmstadt a town very close to Rüsselsheim. So he was near his family!

Thanks for your help guys, I tried to make a search reguest at deutsche Dienststelle.. got a letter from them today asking what relation I have to Karl, so unfortunetly I think the research stops here..

You can try NARA too but I have never had much luck with Medical Officers. You might get some hits looking in E-databases for old German Medical journals if he published research.

The 115th IR probably was the parent unit for the smaller Medical group and maintained the uniforms. This is fairly common with Vet and Medical to find a larger unit stamp for a different branch. If that is the case as Larry noted, he was a member of the 35th Dvision at one point and probably was assigned to Sanitätsdienste 35
