As you know, the Romanians staged a coup d’etat on 23 August 1944 and joined the Allied side and two days later declared war on Germany. Arad, a little used airfield in northwest Romania, was selected by the Germans as a hub for the evacuation of the country. But while this was taking place and extra fuel brought in to refuel Luftwaffe aircraft staging through from eastern Romania and the Bucharest area en-route to Vienna and other locations in the Reich, the Romanian Army in the area attacked the weak German garrison in Arad as well as the airfield. The Luftwaffe dragooned everyone available to defend it. If you read Romanian, you can read more about it here:

                      Many thanks Larry,

                      a last similar problem:
The action in Agran/Pleso (27.09.1943) is included in one of these operations?

Anti-Partisan Operations in Croatia: Operation "Herbst I"
                      25 – 29 September 1943.

Anti-Partisan Operations in Croatia: Operation "Geiserich"
                      26 – 27 September 1943.

I have nothing in my notes concerning the surprise partisan attack on Agram-Pleso on 27.9.1943, so it could not have amounted to much. The partisans were always firing at night on Borongaj, Lucko, Zirkle and Pleso, all four of these being Luftwaffe airfields around Zagreb (Agram).

Go here for the two anti-partisan operations:
