pionier bataillon in Stalingrad

Hi Guys,
Well, I have a question I ask for years (since I saw the film in fact).
In the film Stalingrad, the heroes belong to a unit of Pioneer wich would appear to be independent but I would like to know if this unit really existed.
It would appear that in stalingrad, there were only two independent pioneer unit: the 6 ° and 41 ° pionier battalion.
What was the purpose of these two units?

Indeed Jason's book is excellent!!!

The real Pionier Bataillon 41 was indeed destroyed at Stalingrad, Pi.Btl. 6 was part of 6 Inf.Div. and was not at Stalingrad....perhaps the latter unit is not correct?

I am not sure however, how historically accurate the film was supposed to be, even though I did enjoy it!

I think the film was made more to portray the battle conditions and the conditions the soldiers found themselves accurately, rather than focusing on a historical OOB. I too find this film enjoyable
