    research on German soldier

    Hello,

I'm not sure how I would do this or if this is the right forum to research a name of a german soldier. The name of the soldier and his DOB were found inside the lid of a gas mask and I would like to know who he was, unit etc. Again I would appreciate any and all help!

Here's the information I have on the lid of the canister,

    Gren. Aurin, Ferdinand
    geb. 1. 9. 24.

Please can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

    thanks, John H.

      John H. -

To elaborate a bit, it is pretty difficult to obtain information on an enlisted German soldier. Only WASt in Berlin has a very tiny amount of information on him, and they generally will not accomodate collectors. The German Privacy Law that dates from 1988 stipulates that WASt will only furnish that information to immediate family and relatives. There are a few exceptions to that rule, but they do not include collectors.

There are some "Sticky" threads at the top of this sub-forum. You might want to look through them.

        Dear Larry,

I knew it won't be that easy to research a soldier information. I appreciate the help in this matter.
