I'm aware of most of the conventions regarding how Wehrmacht units were designated, but there's one I'm having trouble understanding-

e.g. M.G. Ers. Kp. 4/39 or gem Schutz. Kp. 1/306

Machine Gun Replacement Company 4 of... ?
General Schuetzen Company 1 of... ?

what does the Arabic number after the slash refer to?
