    awards documet grouping

    The following are a group of award documents I picked up. I have a few questions. A. the units whereabouts, it seems he stayed with the same unit throughout the war and B. The rank Hauptwachtmeister, my understanding that this was a police rank (excuse my ignorance if wrong) also any help with the signatures on the west wall and Ek2 document. Thanks ….Ian

    Artillery, cavalry, and transport branches used "Wachtmeister" instead of "Feldwebel," a carry-over from the same in the Imperial army.

    so for these ranks in the Third Reich,

    Unterfeldwebel= Unterwachtmeister
    Feldwebel= Wachtmeister
    Oberfeldwebel= Oberwachtmeister
    Hauptfeldwebel= Hauptwachtmeister

    There were other branch rank peculiarities in other branches too.
