    Research Help with National Archives

Little out of place but I'm researching a US military battalion and have requested copies of files from the National Archives. They sent me the attached list of files they have.

The files are expensive to get copies of so my question is, which types of files would show me the most info about the unit's actions and movements?

    thanks,
    Jack

I did exactly what you're doing. Hope this will help...

Everything on that list is good stuff, but if I were you, I'd go for the the unit history and the journals. The unit history was most likey made from the AA reports and will have day to day general actions/movements/activities. The journals are your meat and potatoes. They will have all the communications that come into the HQ, whether by phone, radio, or messenger. If can't afford all the journals, just go for the time period you're most interested in. I was fortunate enough to finally go the archives and do the work myself, but it took me a while to get there. If you have any more questions, e-mail me at sumbrel@yahoo.com.
