    GJ Battalion & Bosnia

    Hi,
I have a soldbuch belonging to a Gebirgsjager who fought from the first day of the war until the last. I have been able to do some research but at the moment I am stuck on an area of possible service. In the soldbuch is a poem to his girlfriend about his time in Bosnia (he sounds very despondent in it, mentioning the partisans and their blowing up of trains & lice) but I can't trace what unit he served in Bosnia with.
I think I have narrowed it down to a couple of units: Kraftfahr-Ersatz-Abt 18 and GJ Abt 94. Can anyone confirm whether either of these two units served in Bosnia, I think the time frame would be from around January 1943 & mid to late 1944?
I have attached a scan of the units page of his soldbuch.

Kraftfahr-Ers.Abt. 18 was always in Bregenz on the Boden-See in western Austria. It was never stationed in the Balkans.

Gebirgsjäger-Btl. 94 existed from September 1943 to August 1944 as a field replacement battalion for the 4. Gebirgs-Div. The Division was fighting in south Russia during that period and Geb.Btl. 94 would have been in close proximity to it at that time. One thing is for sure: according to Tessin and my own personal notes covering every unit that served in the Balkans, it was not there. It was the 1. Gebirgs-Div. that was in the Balkans at that time and its field replacement unit was Gebirgsjäger-Btl. 54.
