Attacks on this boat

18 Sep, 1944
Around 20.45 hours, the boat was strafed by five British Mosquito aircraft (RAF Sqdn 248 and 235, led by W/O H.A. Corbin, CGM) off the Norwegian coast. Both diesels of U-867 had been disabled in heavy weather the day before and the boat was heading for the coast. (Sources: Norman Franks)
1 recorded attacks on this boat.

Schnorchel-fitted U-boat
This boat was fitted with a Schnorchel underwater-breathing apparatus in August 1944. Read more about the Schnorchel and see list of fitted boats.
Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-867 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.

U-867 only participated in one war patrol, her route is shown below:

Thanks Adrian,

One of the crewmember have a typical Swedish name, so I am
extra intressted in that man. Birger Andersson was one of the names.
The Dr onboard, Sven Mattheide had also connections to Sweden and he was
born in Stockholm.

Cheers

Svante
