I have a KvK award citation signed by GFM Sperrle (as CO Luftflotte 3 & Befehlshabar West) and it has been awarded to a member of Luftnachrichten-Regiment Arlt in October 1940. Does anyone have any information on this unit and it's role? I believe Arlt was the commanding officer of this unit and that it may of been a LW intelligence unit but any and all information would be welcome. Thanks.

I would imagine, although I can not find any reference to the Regiment in that name, that it was named after Oberstleutnant Hans-Richard Arlt, CO of Luftnachrichten Regiment 3 "Legion Condor".
http://www.ww2.dk/ground/ln/ln3.html as you can see it was under Luftflotte 3 of which Sperrle commanded.
Later CO of Luftnachrichten Regiment 23.

ARLT, Hans Richard. (DOB: 22.07.90). 10.39 Maj., appt Nafü/Luftgaustab z.b.V. 17. 12.39 Kdr. II./Ln.-Rgt. 3 (to 01.03.40). 01.04.40 Obstlt., appt Kdr. Ln.-Rgt. 3 (to 03.41) and Ln.-Rgt. Arlt. 03.41 Obstlt., appt Kdr. Ln.-Rgt. 23. 01.03.42 promo to Oberst. 1943 (acting?) Kdr. Ln.-Rgt. 11 (to 31.07.43). 31.07.43 appt Kdr. Ln.-Flugmelde-Rgt. 101.
Ln-Rgt. Arlt was a provisional ("an der Kommandoweg aufgestellt") signals regiment set up to supplement Ln.-Rgt. 3 in the immense task of establishing Luftwaffe communications at a very large number of airdromes in northern France in preparation for the air campaign against England once France was secured. While Ln.-Rgt. 3 provided signals support to the command echelon of Luftflotte 3, the much smaller Rgt. Arlt provided signals support to Luftgaustab z.b.V. 100 and Luftgaustab z.b.V. 112. These two Stäbe initially set up and ran the airfields in northern France.
Rgt. Arlt had at least 3 Abteilungen but no Regimentsstab (Obstlt. Arlt only needed one Stab to run both regiments, and that was Stab/Ln.-Rgt. 3): I./Arlt (L 04382), II./Arlt (L 26198), IV./Arlt (L 40903), Betriebs-Kp./Arlt (L 15050). When the Regiment was dissolved during the winter 1940-41, the personnel were reassigned all over the place, some going to the Luftgau-Nachr.Rgt. 13, some to Luftgau-Nachr.Rgt. Westfrankreich, etc.
I have found no evidence that Rgt. Arlt had any sort of intelligence function. It seems to have been mainly concerned with telephone switchboard and teletype installation, setting up communications centers, local telephone line and cable laying, etc.
