"And Eric I had to laugh and agree again that this piece looks like it would come from the tv series you mention Alo Alo, a very funny show. That is the show with the saying about the painting of the madonna with the big boobs correct?

Trance, I think you have to go back and drag out the true story from the person who sold it to you. I've done that in the past when doubts arose over something i've bought. I made them tell me the truth.

If my Grandpa brought home war booty, the last thing i'd do is sell it.

I have seen lots of this kind of repro brass equipment in Jalan Surabaya in Jakarta. Telescopes, periscopes etc.

Sounds like you've fallen in love with your piece a bit ! Rather like posting a photo of a virgin bride, only to be told in reply that everyone else has already had her !

One more thing. (Deep breath please now!). Can you tell us how much you paid for it?

The telescope is simply an abomination. It is laughable to believe that this poor quality engraving and workmanship would actually be something that was given to AH. This is merely one more of the many knock-offs that have been created to take advantage of the gullible.

lololol... Oh the brutality of the honesty!!! I love it!!! At least you guys don't hide behind a mask!!! well gullable.. NO!! Naive... yes but i'm learning quick!!! and if you crticize me for wanting to learn and explore as much as i can then you have mistaken me for a lesser person. I am glad that you have all given me your opinions and to say i am writing this as a joke is to me your arrogance but hey!!! If i was in the collecting buisness for as long as you guys then i probably would do the same........ :P
Please don't insult me with comments of laughability at my expense when i got this for a steal and are only trying to learn as fast as i can about something i have a great passion for, all things Third Reich. I am not offended by your comments but understand i am here for knowledge and to learn not to be treated as a joke. I am sure you were all in my position in the beginning and from a seed a rtrue collector grows with the help of the teachers around him. If i'm guilty for wanting to learn then your guilty for trying to insult my quest.
I very much appreciate all your opinions, arrogant or not and are greatful to know reall experts opinions but everyone must start some where and that i have. You'll be seeing far more of me in the future as i'm here to stay and hopefully i can offer constructive opinions without the hint of arrogance in the future!! Knowledge is what i seek and knowledge i will gain.
          Thanks all once again

            Hello Justin,
I don't think anyone really meant to insult you or anything, I think it's just that, and I think you have to admit, that the story told to you sounds hokey to say the least and the item just doesn't even look like a quality piece right off the bat. Try as we might sometimes as much as we'd like a piece to be real it just isn't. We have all been burnt in the past and I imagine will be burnt on something in the future perhaps so I do applaud you for saying that you are here for knowledge and should not be treated as a joke. No matter how long someone has been collecting stuff I think we can always learn from others so I'm glad to see you didn't take offense enough to avoid the forums, they definately are a good place to learn and get information.

              Hello Justin,

Yes, some of the commentary was arrogant and insulting, but you fielded it with class and dignity. I think most here do try to be constructive in their advice even if their remarks get brutally frank at times. There are a few, however, who do like to "pile on" in a mean-spirited attempt to add insult to injury. The best suggestion is to try and ignore them and move on. If they get too nasty, too personal or begin using foul language, then they will have the moderators to contend with. So hang in there and eventually you will become a regular and find your experience here rewarding.

              Welcome aboard,

              --Larry

P.S. I might respectfully suggest that your try and keep your posts to a reasonable length. The first one, the one you began the thread with, was a dilly and the longest post I've seen on this web site so far. The more you post in volume, the more exposed you are you potshots.

                Justin,

I would agree, take it with a grain of salt. There is much to learn from people on this website and it is a great resource. Towards the telescope, as noted there are many items like this that surface with fantastic stories etc. There are of course real personality items of Hitler and Goering etc. out there but they are few and far between. The bottom line is to be very careful and discerning when buying things like this. Welcome to the Forum.

Thank you very much for the kind words guys. If it's one thing i have learn't in my small time of Third Reich Collecting you are going to face these sorts of criticisms like it or not. It's all a matter of opinion and opinions are knowledge. I must add that i'm only just getting on my feet in this forum and will endevour to stream line everything i do to make it as easy and tidy as possible but what i will never do is hide from asking questions and also making new friends that also have the passion that i have for this field. I truly feel i have found a home in this forum and look forward to sharing and learning so much more in the future. Time, debate and opinions will allow me to grow into collector i wish to be and i have already felt welcomed by many of you. I'm opened minded and want to learn. I used eBay as my tool and yes i have grabbed some bargains from being at the right place at the right time, so i'm not entirely niave but sometimes although i seek information i can't always find it but with the help of this forum and the freindlier members i'm sure i will make a worthy addition to the voice of the Third Reich Collectors!
Vielen Dank meine gute freunde und gruesse an den Feinde!!!!
