Info on Kurt Winkler KC Holder Please

    Hi Guys

Does anybody know where I can find info on the following Knights Cross Holder ? I would like to find out what he got the Knights Cross for. I would also like to find a photo of him.

KURT WINKLER Heer Oberstleutnant PZ . GREN . RGT 101 , awarded the KC on 17 Mar 1945.

Died 11th of Feb 1962 in Hannover.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Shaun

On 17 March 1945, Grenadier-Rgt. 101 belonged to the 14. Inf.Div./IX. AK and was located on the Samland Peninsula to the NW of Königsberg. The front there was static at that time. However, the date of award was 17 March 1945, but that could have been for deeds performed many months before or even for a cumulation of deeds over a period of time.

As for the juicy details, I think you will have to refer to a series of books published by the now-defunct Biblio Verlag that provided a couple of pages on each Ritterkreuzträger. Maybe somebody can help you with that.

The series of volumes on infantry RKT hasn't got as far as W yet unfortunately, volume7 is expected this year and it only goes up to Fürbach.

Although it seemed like it, Biblio is apparently alive and breathing (and there was great rejoicing)

A 2 Apr 08 posting on Axis History Forum:
Hello everyone, I e-mailed Bob Ruman, who I knew well when he had his store near Chicago. He replied that he had heard from the owner of Biblio-Verlag. The owner had been away for over a year due to an illness, but is back now, and plans to resume business again. Bob added he will keep me (us) informed when he has more information. This sounds like good news, especially for those of us awaiting vol 8 of the generals series. Best regards
Simon: this is indeed world-shaking news! And super news, too, if true. But as the old adage goes, "I'll believe it when I see it."

Just for starters, Biblio Verlag is owned lock, stock and barrel by the much larger Zeller Verlag. The decision to restart or not to restart the "old" Biblio in Osnabrück (not the new re-print Biblio) is up to Zeller and not the former owner. Last fall, the word was that Zeller did not want to restart it and begin publishing again because it was an unprofitable operation. The publishing industry as a whole has worsened since then, so it is difficult to see how Zeller has all of a sudden had a change of mind on this.

We can all hope, but I am not going to hold my breath that these on-going series will ever be resumed. I sure hope I am wrong.

            Cheers,

            --Larry
