    Help id German unit

Recently I purchased an pistol with its corresponding capture papers.
Inside the holster it had a German soldiers id along with the unit and information which follows:

    Feld Adolf Walter
    Schiesnrig 1
    Hitler Ahr 80

Any idea of the units order would be appreciated. The unit on the capture papers is the 325th Glider Infantry so I was wondering if this unit served in Normandy, Holland or the Bulge. Please Help

I had a few typos in my previous message. The information is as follows:

    Feld M. Adolf Walter
    Schlesnrig 1
    Hitler ahr 80

    Hope this helps

Feld M has me thinking of the RAD rank of Feldmeister (leutnant). The rest looks like an address. The ownership and use in service of private sidearms was not uncommon.

        Hi Seth,

do you think it is possible to show us a photo of the name and the address?

They way you wrote it down is not an exact German address. I would like to see the original writing - if possible.

Gerdan - do you think it might be:

          Schlesnrig 1 (Schleswig 1)
Hitler ahr 80 (Hitler Allee 80)

          ??

His rank is “Feldw.” = Feldwebel = Sergeant Adolf Walter
              His address almost certainly is:
              Schleswig I
              Adolf Hitlerstraße 80
              Telefon: 3193

Your chances of determining his military unit are next to zero, but here are a couple of possibilities:

              1) run his name through this registry: http://www.volksbund.de/graebersuche/content_suche.asp

              2) contact the Stadtarchiv in the city of Schleswig (pop. c.30,000).

With the help of Larry at least we could identify the exact name and address of that guy.

Meanwhile I learned that the former Adolf-Hitler- Strasse in Schleswig is now the Flensburger Strasse - but in the recent phone book there is no person with family name WALTER living there in this street.

The Volksbund has listed more than 30 Adolf Walter killed in WWII.
It is a very common name in Germany.

So it will really be a very (!) difficult task to find out more about this man, nearly impossible, I think.

With a telephone number and address there is a chance here if you can find an old telephone book for Schleswig.

Clearly a private purchase weapon and as Larry says the rank is Feldwebel.
