I'm researching this one soldier off of some info from the Volksbund:

Nachname: Schmehl
Vorname: Hermann
Dienstgrad: Gefreiter
Geburtsdatum: 04.10.1920
Geburtsort: Weinsberg
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 01.09.1941
Todes-/Vermisstenort: Dnjepropetrowsk

Does anyone know what infantry units were stationed around Dnjepropetrowsk at that time?

198 Infanterie Division. Just Google the location + Infanterie, for example

Is there any possibility for another unit? I have two postcards of a parade that I beleive belonged to the same man, and on the back of one it is typed "Zur Erinnerung an den Einmarsch am 5. August 1940 in Karlsbad". From this I beleive the parade was of the 46 ID, and so I presumed this man was of the 46 ID as well. Is the 46 ID a possibility?

The 46 ID was in Dnjepropetrowsk ... just not in 1941. They went through there during Heeresgruppe Sud`s retreat.

In 1941 they were in the Krim peninsula, South of Dnjepropetrowsk. I suppose its conceivable that one of the 46 ID units went through Dnjepropetrowsk in 1941
