        Regimental commanders

Oberst Windisch from '38 to late '41
Oberst Philipp from late '41 to Jan.42
Oberst Kräutler March '42 to March '44
        Oberstleutnant Beierlein may\june 44 to jul.44
Oberst Schlebrügge from Jul.44 to Feb.45
Major Rohr for a short period up to late April '45
        Major Klebe to war's end.

I take it you do mean Gebirgsjäger Regiment 139 and not reserve Gebirgsjäger Regiment 139 or Gebirgsjäger ersatz regiment 139?

          Hello Simon

The correct name is "Schleebrügge" with double "ee". I just say it as you seem to use it in all your posts with one "e" :-)

            Hi Christoph

The reason i use a single 'e' is because that's how the name is written in all the authorative references, amongst others, 'Das Deutsche Heer, 1939' the 1953 reprint of the 1939 original. The 1944 rangliste, also the 1943 'Schi-jäger am feind' not to mention his entry in biblio-verlag's RKT volumes on the gebirgstruppe, the website das-ritterkreuz and even Kaltenegger uses a single 'e'

On the other hand i note that the gruppe Narvik KTB uses 'ee' as does Alex Buchner (who uses the KTB in his book 'Narvik'). It's also worth adding that the gruppe Narvik KTB does include a series of misspelled names.

And just to add, if you look up both spellings in the German telephone book and the German wargraves database you will only find people with a single 'e'

              Hello

Hmmm then this is something I took over from maybe wrong sources. The references you state are much more convincing.

                Hello Simon

Sorry again you are correct. I checked my sources as well and it is indeed written with one "e" in all orignal documents. I alwys wrote it incorrect although I researched his unit quite a bit. Thats what we call "Betriebsblind"

                  Hi christoph

It's good to be able to 'put to bed' a spelling mistake that has been repeated over the years. I think it all stems from the gruppe Narvik KTB, used by Buchner as a major source in his 1958 book on Narvik and subsequnetly quoted by others.

I first picked up on it when researching the two companies from GJR 137 that jumped over Narvik, both company commanders are misspelled in the KTB, Oberleutnant Erich Schwaiger, misspelled Schweiger and Oberleutnant Rieger misspelled Riegler. (pages 54 and 55 of the KTB if you have it).
