I have an oil painting of a German Admin.Officer with the name on the back to Richard Geiler-Landau.The artist is FH Frank 1943.His shoulder boards are equal to a major.Any help would be appreciated.

in the German area Palatine (falz) there is a winegrowing estate (Weingut) and
destillery. The name of the owners is GEILER- and the place name is Ilbesheim
very near to LANDAU (name of a town).
They have their own homepage: http://weingut-geiler.de
But this is only an idea...

In the recent German phonebook you will find 4 entries Geiler in the town Landau, two of them have the same address: Kapellenstrasse 56.
And if you have a look to Ilbesheim. You have 6 entries Geiler in the recent phone book.
My feeling ist that you should start your research there.
May be you could show them a photograph of the painting and ask them if they had a Richard Geiler in their family.

HI Dan, I would love to know more about your officer. What do you mean by Administration officer? There was a "Special career" (Sonderlaufbahn) in the Heer called the Verwaltungsoffizierkorps and officers in this branch were referred to as (e.g.) Hauptmann (V). As of 1944 there were some 60K such officers in the Heer. Can you show an image of this oil painting?

On the war graves site there is a Richard Geiler from Ilbesheim born 1906 who died in 1945. Unfortunetly his rank is not provided.
