Helmet with a name written with ink

    Hi everybody,
I recently purchased a M1940 stahlhelm, made by Quist after august 1943 (no decal). Inside is a name written with ink, on the leather of the liner. The name is also written inside the rear skirt, next of the markings with what looks like to be a pencil. It7s a beautifull piece of our history which has spent more than 60 years in a garage before to come out on a flea market!
The name is KASPRICK, and it maybe FILIP or FILIPP KASPRICK
The fact is that I'm trying to find the owner but..... I can't really find anything...
I thought that, maybe, somebody could help me in my researches?
    Have a nice day

      Hi Gerdan,
it seams that we've got the same idea
After I posted my thread, I tried the german phone book too! 57 entries, that's not so much, don't you think? Well it seems that I have to send a lot of letters....
Thank a lot for spending your time trying to help me!

Yep... I couldn't find any Kasprick in the Austrian phone book either. The bigger problem is that I'm not sure about the firstname... some letters disapeared with the time, and I can read only " ili..." the next one looks to be a "p" but I'm not sure... with the complete name, my chance would increase a lot. Last week, I located an american veteran who fought in Europe just with his full name (and a lot of work and luck^^) but...
I'm seriously thinking about a letter to all the Kasprick of Germany

Is someone is interested by some photo of the helmet, just ask me and I will do it!

            Have a good day
            Phil

              Hi Phil,

if you can read "..ili.." his first name could have been "Willie" ?

Mmm... well, I can't tell because I'm at work right now, but I remember that I found a Willie or Willy (I don't remember) Kasprick on the german red cross list... but I think that when I saw it, I checked very well again on the liner leather, and I couldn' see 2 "L".... That's such a shame to have lose of memory already
I will check it again tonight

The chances of finding the owner or his familly are very small. Even when you have the exact name, date and place of birth, etc, it isnt possible to find familly after 60 years in many cases.

I have a gas mask with the name Monzhausen inside... There is only one in the whole german phone book. I sent a letter... and never got any reply.

                    That's no surprise.

Modern people in the year 2008 are interested in their family (spouse, kids and maybe their parents), their job, sex, booze and drugs in about that order. I would guess 95 out of every 100 people receiving a letter like that would just toss it out. Sad but true, I'm afraid.

                      Hi Gerdan,
sorry for the delay. So I checked the writting in the liner again. I'm 95% certain that there is "ilip" written on there. With a little bit of imagination, I can guess a "p" just after, maybe 2 "p" but the second one is really faded. It also looks like there is a letter just before, like a "l", or a "h"...
So I would say "hilip" or "hilipp"...
The funny thing is that my firstname is Philippe! Does my brain want to see my name on this helmet??
I would like to post a photo so everybody could give me their opinion... is there anybody for to tell me how I can proceed?

Have a good night (or day? )

                      Phil

                        Hi Phil,

it could be easier if it would be a "Willi" instead of a "Philipp" bacause in the register of the Volksbund you will find in total 8 graves of Kasprick - and no one with a Philipp.

But one Willi! He was born 28 Mar 1924 and KIA 17 Mar 1945 near Valpovo/Croatia.

                        But this are all speculations.

                        Gerdan
