    2 PzJg Normandy

    Hello

I wondered if anyone might be able to help me with this, I bought this gasmask in Normandy and has written on the mask and tin 2 PzJg, I have tried a search but I am thinking that this is not specific enough? I did have a go at using lexicon, but I got a bit lost

There is also a name on the tin Lt Klass

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

    John

You're right: not specific enough to track down. Someone with a lot of time and all the right resources might make an attempt at it, but they would never be certain. But if you had a few more pieces, such as exactly where it was found, date found, Klass' first name, etc., then the chances would be better but still not a slam-dunk.

      thanks Larry

I was told by someone who had access to a casualty list from the Normandy period and he was not mentioned there

Perhaps the 2 relates to btln, this is what I was thinking from what I managed to find on LexiKon

      no first initial either

It came from Caen, am I right in saying panzer jaeger would also be the same as grenadier (havnt got my book handy), so a search for grenadier regiments in Normandy who fought near Caen might narrow it down?

I had a great pair of spectacles at the same time and the card was fully filled out, let it go since, oopps ! that would have been a good one to find out about

thanks for the response and will see if anyone else might be able to help

        2 Pzjg is almost meaningless.

panzerjäger means anti-tank. Having the 2 in front might refer to a zug (platoon) or company. With out a unit number after the abbreviation you're stuck.

So as i understand it you bought it in Caen? Are you sure it was in Caen in 1944?

There's no Lt.Klass on the German wargraves database that died in France in the summer of '44.
