    Hi James,
The photos of Wittmann on the gun mantle of his Tiger shows him wearing a bog standard PAB and as far as anybody knows he never got a numbered version no matter how absurd it seems......

I´m researching the holders of the graded PABs currently, putting together a list. I heard and read that there was some kind of "issue" with members of the Heavy SS 101 Tank Battalion not being awarded numbered PABs until late 1944. I totally agree that Wittmann was elligible for at least the "50" PAB, if not even the "75" or "100". But consider this: Oberst d.R. Franz Bäke was awarded the PAB "100" in April ´44, along with the swords to the KC. So they were handed out. Yet there is not a word to be found about Wittmann being presented a numbered PAB along with his swords. The photo where he is posing on his Tiger was taken in May, and it clearly shows him wearing only the plain silver PAB. I don´t know why he wasn´t awarded a numbered PAB. But I found no proof of any kind that he ever received a higher grade, as strange as it is.

I am going to see Stephen Wolfe next week to hopefully buy something juicy
so I will ask about wittman's awards and if he has them then MAYBE just MAYBE I'll be allowed to take some photos. W&H don't usually let photos be taken.
