    About Korvettenkapitän Helmut Witte

    Hi,

I´m reading the memories from Karl Donitz and he says that Helmut Witte sunk the total of 148 ships with 725.009 tons!!!

    Is this real??

    uboat.net says :

    Successes
23 ships sunk for a total of 119.554 GRT
1 ship damaged for a total of 265 GRT

says too.... U-159 Sunk 28 July, 1943 in the Caribbean Sea, south of Haiti, in position 15.57N, 68.30W, by depth charges from an American Mariner aircraft (VP-32, P-1). 53 dead (all hands lost).

but Witte deceased at 3 Oct, 2005...

there is something wrong in uboat.net or in the book....

U-159 was commanded by Oberleutnant Heinz Beckmann on it's last voyage.

Witte served as a watch officer onboard the U-107 at the time it made the most successful war cruise of a U-boat during the war with 14 ships sunk.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.
