Looking for any info on well decorated LATVIAN SS OFFICER who won the DKIG
was at least a STurBAN FuR NAME TOBIAS EMIGRATED to CANADA post war spelling may be off but close

There were 16 Latvians who received the DKiG (3 of these went on to receive the RK). 8 of these were at least of Sturmbannführer rank or above. None of them emigrated to Canada after the war and none had a name Tobias or even close. Is there any more information you can give to help trace the man you’re looking for?<O</O

Many thanks for your great reply. He obviously changed his name and details upon entering Canada after the war so the real facts are now lost

Having looked at the other DKiG recipients below the rank of Sturmbannführer, none of them emigrated to Canada post-war, so it looks as if the guy in question was not a holder of the DKiG, nor a Sturmbannführer, since I can't find any trace in my sources of such a senior ranking officer emigrating to Canada.

His tunic has surfaced he died a few years ago in Toronto . He was as stated SS LATVIAN INFANTRY DIV and holder of the ek1 ek2 ccc, DKIG,etc. I am sure he used much under the table help to get into Canada and hide here.
