    Translation Assistance ("Strang"?)

I'm looking at a Volksbund death record that lists "Strang" as the location of death. My German is fairly rusty, and Babelfish is no use here. What does that mean?

"Strang" is old german for rope - so he was hanged.

Babelfish came back with "strand", which didn't immediately make sense.

A disciplinary military execution of some sort? (He was killed August 10, 1944 a few miles outside of Saint Lo, for what it's worth.)

      Thanks!

If the Volksbund means place name and not method/way of his death there is

also a place name (village) in Germany named Strang.

Strang: a tiny village 17.1 km SE of Bielefeld.
Strang: a tiny village 31.6 km NE of Marburg an der Lahn.
Strang is also the name of an area, a hill, a lake and a stream in Germany.

There is no place in France by that name.

Better double check the translation because he couldn't have been killed or died in two different places simultaneously.

I had a moment of academic dyslexia there. He was born in Strang.
