Stabsbatterie vs Normal Batterie

Hi All

I'm looking into someone who, from what I can gather, initially served in the 1st Battery of an Abteilung and then later in the Stabsbatterie. What exactly is the difference between a 1st,2nd etc Batterie and a Stabsbatterie?

stabs = headquarters but a stabs batterie or kompanie might include a signals platoon, engineer platoon and various other elements. depends what sort of artillery unit you're thinking of.
