    Getting Started

    Hey Everyone.

    I think I may be able to pull off alot of history on one individual soldier named Wilhelm Dertinger. I have a ton of photos of him and those that belonged to him during the war, and some technical information. What will I specifically need to present to the WASt for research?

        As much personal info as you gather, name, date of birth, last known rank, that he was a pionier and include that he likely died in Soviet captivity.

        By the way, don't start nagging on people to answer you after a matter of hours. Give a few days ok?
        Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

          Answer: (1) legal proof that you are the deceased soldier's relative, or a letter from the American Historical Association or its equivalent, or an international genealogical association or similar, that you are a credentialed researcher; or, (2) a legally acceptable letter of authorization from the deceased soldier's closest surviving relative; or, (3) hire a German attorney to handle it for you (cost: an estimated $1,200). In any event, you will have to have an adult do this for you because as a 13-year-old you have no legal status and any documents executed by you are not recognized in a court of law.

          The reason no one leapt forth to answer your question is because it has been asked here 571,192 times (read as overstated exaggeration) and continues to be almost daily. People get very tired of answering the same question over and over and over. By using SEARCH, or scanning back through a page or two of this sub-forum's menu, or looking through the "pinned" topics at the top of this menu page, you would have found your answer.

          I tried very hard to keep this response neutral in tone and free of sarcasm, and kindly forgive me if I failed. I am one of the ones who is very tired of answering this question.
