    Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung

    Pz.Aufkl.Abt. "Kmk" (Pz.Späh-, 2. u. 3. (SPW-)Kp.; schw.Aufkl.Kp.)

Can anyone tell me what is written here?
I do know that it starts with Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung and ends with schwere Aufklärungs kompanie.
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

    Panzer Aufklärungs Abteilung
    1 panzer späh kompanie
    2. kompanie
    3 (Schützen-panzerwagen) kompanie
    4 Schwere kompanie

The 'Kmk' has me thinking of Kurmark but that would be wrong. Where did you see this?

      It is indeed from Kurmark.
So this Aufklarungs abteilung consited of 4 kompanie's ?

can you tell me what kind of kompanie's those are? (what kind of SDKFZ's they had).
For example, what do they mean with schwere kompanie?

          Hello

No a schwere Kompanie did not contain tanks.
It had a AT-gun platoon, IG-Platoon and a Pionier-platoon and in some cases a Kanonenzug.
It consisted of (1x 251/2 for the company leader, 15x 251/1, 6 251/9 in the schwerer Kanonenzug, 7x 251/7 in the Pionier-platoon. 251/1 for the platoon leaders.
Here the KStN for a Kanonenzug

From what i understand Kurmark's AA unit was Panzer Aufklärungs Abteilung 151 though it wouldn't surprise me to see it being called Kurmark at the very end of the war. Also, it would seem the abteilung was far from having it's authorised strength.

Ahhh thanks guys! so "A A" means also aufklarung abteilung...
thats great because i found this text on the internet:

Die Pz.Gren.Div. 'Kurmark' hat im Februar 1945 noch 8 s.Pz.Sp.Wg. bekommen,
              aber bereits am 1.3.1945 wurden nur noch 3 2cm Wagen gemeldet => Sd.Kfz. 234/1.
Fall sie noch andere Typen bekommen hatte waren diese wohl schon wieder verlorengegangen.
Das Sd.Kfz. 251/9 hätte sonst gepasst. Es gab mindestens 5 davon in der Pz.A.A..
Yea it was aufklarungs abt. 151, also called Kurmark, just like all the late war made Divisions... they all got names i beleve.

But.. what did 2. kompanie had? i'm especialy intrested in that kompanie.

From what i can tell the abteilung never reached anything like it's full strength. Tessin states it consisted of 1 mixed squadron and i've not seen anythng else to contradict that, though i'm not a specialist on GD units.

1 squadron? strange since the EKM i have is from second komp.
Maybe there were 2 kompanie's but with a total manpower of the size of a sqaudron ??
And what is its connection to GD?? apart from the fact that its made out of the GD Pz-Gr erzats brigade.

You can't base assumptions on the actual organisation of the abteilung based on a dogtag, unless you dug it yourself of course. You need someone with a detailed knowledge of the division (i say GD because it was part of the GD family and there are researchers who specialise in just that formation). The general references are not good enough here, what you really need, if any exist, are copies of original gliederungen (tables of organisation and equipment).
