From what little I've been able to dig up, it appears that only Stab and I. Battalion of IR 276 were captured at Stalingrad. Does anyone know the history of what happened with the rest of the unit?

Hi Chris,
94.Inf.Div. was disbanded in December 1942 (officially ceasing to exist in the Stalingrad pocket as of midnight 31 December 1942... divisional staff was flown out) and split up amongst 16.Pz.Div. and 24.Pz.Div. If you wish, I can supply a detailed breakdown of which 94.I.D. unit was given to which panzer division. Off the top of my head, I know that Inf.Rgt.276 was allocated to 16.Panzer-Division and became I./Pz.Gr.Rgt.79.
As with all Stalingrad units, individual men survived (because they were on leave, wounded and flown out, caught outside the pocket, etc.) and later formed the nucleus of the reformed divisions.

As of 1 January 1943, Gr.Rgt.267 became part of 24.Pz.Div. It consisted of regimental staff, two weak battalions and 13th and 14 companies, and an attached Luftwaffe battalion. On this day, the regiment had a trench strength of only 654 men.

The only survivors (as Jmark noted for the 276th) would have been members that were out of the pocket, wounded, in schools, or on leave etc. It was rebuilt after the original unit was destroyed.Comment
