    Unknown warrior.

Hello to all; I think this is the right place to post this thread. Any chance to get the name of this Oberleutnant and Company Commander as it was written in the caption?. He was a brave man, as you can see, he was showing off the ribbon of the Iron Cross 2nd Class, the Iron Cross first Class and the Wound Badge (in silver grade I think). The picture was shot somewhere in Russia in the middle of the summer of 1941.

as it was written in the caption?.
What caption? if you dont have any more information this could be any of many thousands of Oberleutnante. Just to give you an idea, in the period 1941-44 the Heer had on average some 10.5K active officers with rank Oblt. That does not include reserve officers which are probably twice that number. Most of them would have seen action on the Eastern front.

That's not a wound badge he is wearing. Looks like an Allgemeine Sturmabzeichen to me.

        Brought from the forgetfulness.

Hello people; this is a Holiday Season so I'll take it easy .

First, tenoriodj my friend, you've right about the numbers and rates but could you tell me how many people pass thru this forum and can read this thread? I think the odds are on my side; if not he will stay as the tittle's thread tells us another U/known warrior. As for me, when I see some post if I've some info on it I speak, if not just I let it go. Adding to it, he was not an ordinary Oberleutnante he won the Iron Cross (both 1º and 2º class) and was injured several times (as per the wounded badge). Please, to avoid any missunderstanding, I threw the line, if something got stuck in the hook well if not I'll go home happy as well . Espero me hayas comprendido y no lo tomes a mal Gustavo pues yo lo considero un intercambio de ideas y nada más que eso .

Second, F L Clemens, yes could be possible too, but I think this guy was an infantry soldier and the General Assault Badge was given mainly to engineers and also to others branch which supported the riflemen in the attack. Nevertheless I checked with the awards list on this very site and I think that the badge which could match better would be the wounded badge .

Happy New Year - Feliz Año Nuevo - Gutes neues Jahr - Feliz Ano Novo - Bonne Année.

        Cheers. Tigre .

Is that a Ritterkreuz at his neck or just a button? I defer to your expertise.

Are these photos yours now or do they still belong to Robert Noss?

You mentioned a caption? Where does it say he was a company commander?

The 'silver' badge is a General Assault badge, no question, you can clearly see the gaps, the eagle, wreath and crossed bayonet\grenade.

Why do you think he's infantry? The GAB shows he isn't and you can't see what colour waffenfarbe he has.

without a unit, name and date the only people that might recognise him are those that knew him. An oberleutnant with an EKI was very common indeed.

                  Award's badge.

Hello to all. Upss, I did not wish to start a fire here guys .

Thank you Simon for your clear explanation. Sorry for the word "caption" is wasn't clear enough.

I never told I had any expertise on that so I'm guilty; sorry for making a mistake with the badge's award I did not know it was a capital sin. Do not shoot .

I never knew any Mr Robert Noss nor got in contact wiht him. I've stumbled with those picture in the old website www.photosammler.de (by now the server tells me ZUGRIFF NICHT ERLAUBT - Die angeforderte Seite darf nicht angezeigt werden.); below the photo showed in my first post was written "First lieutenant and chief of the company, Infantry" so my confusion as the GAB was given to non infantry soldiers only.

                  The other badge http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/serv.../1939_main.htm

As for my question "Any chance to................" a little NO would been enough for me .

Sorry again fellows for all this misunderstanding .

Happy New Year - Feliz Año Nuevo - Gutes neues Jahr - Feliz Ano Novo - Bonne Année

                  Cheers. Tigre

The owner of that site, Robert Noss used to be a moderator here at WAF.

There's a world of difference between a luftwaffe Knight's Cross holder and one of the 300 000 or so EKI holders. Even German Cross holders can be very difficult to impossible to identify.

Th arrogant poster of other people's photos is suddenly the victim.

                        Next time:
                        a) post your own photos and
                        b) don't piss on people who suggest that you are going down the wrong path. Take it as a hint.
