Officer List G.J.R 85

Can anyone suggest a source for an officers list of Gebirgs-Jaeger Regiment 85? I am researching a Lt. Colonel from this unit during the period '40-'45. Rather vague unfortunately. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you talking about Max Stendebach? Anyway, whoever it is, the personel files would be the best, These may be on file at NARA. There may be some info on him in the Divison records but the files for the individual would be the best.

Is the soldier you are researching actually earlier when the regiment was Infantry Regiment 85? I have a tunic for a Leutenant Colonel from JR85 before it was converted to a Gebirgsjager unit. I would be very interested to see a officers list from this unit too.

An oberstleutnant means a battalion or the regimental commander, not overly difficult to track down if you have a name.

These documents do not include officers lists, only the names of unit commanders to regiment\abteilung level along with divisional staff officers where known
