118th Infantry Regiment

Gentlemen,

Can any of you provide information on the 118th Infantry Regiment?

I have an Oberst's walking out tunic with these cyphers on it. Photo of shoulder board is attached. Also, his medal bar. The uniform has no name in it and I am trying to nail down who it could be.

As of 1939, the Kdr. of 118 IR was Oberst Gümbel, whose RDA as Oberst was 1.1.38. He was promoted to Generalleutnant on 1.1.43, and is still listed as Kdr IR 118 in the 1944-45 rangliste

The appointments shown in the 44 rangliste are those held at the outbreak of war in Sept.39. Gümbel commanded the regiment between July 1938 and Feb.1940. From Feb.1940 to Oct.1942 it was Carl Casper. From Oct.42 to Feb.44 it was Alexander Conrady.


Mike, do the decorations belong to the tunic? If so we're looking for a Bavarian.
