Hello all,
Could anyone help me with this FPN please?
I have had in my possession for several months a great deal of correspondence dating from 1903 to 1965, amounting to approx. 400+ letters postcards etc.
A good few are from World War One, throughout the thirties and a great many from the World War Two period.
They begin with letters to a Leutnant Bruno Dietz who served in an infantry regiment during WW1, an is unusual for feldpost as is consists mainly of correspondance addressed to him, rather than sent by him.
He appears to have spent the early war years in a hotel in Vienna, and unfortunately only a few of the letters have envelopes.
Of the few envelopes which have survived I have the following information:
In November 1941, he was a Hauptmann, apparently in a Vienna hotel (no Feldpost No);
By March 1943 he had been promoted to Major: FPN 40387 and retained this FPN until at least May 1944.
Whilst on the subject I know much has been written and discovered about WW2 FPN, but I have not heard or read anything regarding WW1 FPN! is anything known about these?
Best regards, and thanks for any assistance;
John.
