I have a helmet that has the name Neumann nicely painted in it. It has a Heer decal. The liner has written inside Jo N 4. Probably, Neumann is a common name in Germany. That is all I have. Do anyone have any idea how I can get research data on this soldier? I appreciate any information. Kindest Regards, Bill PS, I hope this is the right place for information on a soldier?

No this is not the right place. Mods could you delete this and wjitman's thread? I don't wish to be rude, but this forum should be just like a data set of individual soldiers without this clutter.

With a common name like that, you would need his full name (including his middle name) and his date of birth. There were 18,000,000 Germans in the Wehrmacht at one time of another and probably 25,000 of them were named NEUMANN. Then you would have to lie to the German authorities (WASt Berlin) and convince them that he is your long-lost relative. If you were able to pull that off, then there would be fees involved and a long wait. If they caught even the slightest whiff that you were a collector and had falsified paperwork in claiming to be a relative, they would be fully authorized to initiate international legal proceedings against you.
