        Craigob -

Do you have any interest in where Flugzeug-Bergungstrupp 5/VI served during the war and what it did? Raymond and I would like to stimulate more interest in the history of the units and not just in their identification. Unfortunately, most collectors walk away after they get it identified and have no interest in anything beyond that. Let us know if we can tickle your curosity with some details.

            Hi Craig -

Here is the information. As part of Lw.-Berge-Kp.z.b.V. 31, in was in the Münster area during most of 1944.

            Flugzeug-Bergungstrupp 5/VI

Formed about April 1941 in Holland (Bergen?).
15 May 41: transferred from Bergen/Holland to Poland for the attack on the Soviet Union.
22 Jun 41: transferred from Radzyn/Central Poland to Lyck/East Prussia.
2 Jul 41: moved forward to salvage destroyed German and Russian aircraft in Lithuania - one man from the Trupp WIA this date near Varena.
May 42 – Aug 42: stationed in Minsk under Luftzeugstab 107.
3 Aug 42: transferred with Lz.Stab 107 from Minsk to Uspenskaya, located in the Donets Basin near Stalino, in preparation for the advance on Stalingrad.
Feb 43: listed as destroyed at Stalingrad, but evidently it was re-established in Germany with replacement personnel.
1 Sep 43: disbanded in Germany and used to form Lw.-Berge-Kp.z.b.V. 31, which operated in Germany under Lw.-Befehlshaber Mitte (later Luftflotte Reich) to the end of the war.

Craig, accept my apologies for that. Simon is quite right and I have mixed the numbers up

Larry, really wonderful stuff. So much more interesting than just the bare bones.

Simon, well spotted, you have passed the test for observation.
