    Hpt.Strippel

I wonder if someone can help...I bought a '41byf P08 (black widow) in a Holster that has the following written inside the flap....Hpt.Strippel...(next line) PFNo04313..I am guessing that PFN. or PFNo is a feldpostnummer...can anyone identify that for me....this is my first post so I need to see if a photo can be attached...thanks in advance Grahame

Hi Grahame, first of all, wlcome to the forum!

The 04313 FP number is for:

    (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 3. große Kraftwagen-Kolonne Nachschub-Kolonnen-Abteilung 593,
    (1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 27.9.1943 gestrichen,
    (7.11.1944-Kriegsende) 3.1.1945 Stab, 1.-3. u. Versorgungs-Kompanie Panzerjäger-Abteilung 49,
    (7.11.1944-Kriegsende) 23.1.1945 Stab, 1.-4. u. Versorgungs-Kompanie Panzerjäger-Abteilung 49.

To attach a photo direct from your PC you need to be an association member. Cost is $25 per annum. There are lots of benefits to being a member; members only forum, E Stand, discount books, members only articles etc.

    Cheers, Ade.

The only Strippel i can find of officer grade was a Lt. in jan.39 and belonged to Inf.Rgt.70.

That's going from the jan 39 rangliste for the army, the 44 rangliste which only lists regular officers major and above and award lists for the higher decorations.

        Hpt. Strippel

Hi Simon, thanks for your input...re Hpt.Strippel, I was told by a collector of German things that Hpt. was not as I thought , a captain...but a sort of warrant officer...or a RSM...he told me that the abreviation for captain is Hptn. There was was Hans Strippel in a Panzer Regiment who was an Oberfeldwebbel and won a bunch of medals...there was also an Arnold Strippel who was a guard at Buchewald...but, seems an uncommon name. again many thanks. Hello Adrian, many thanks for helping with friend Strippel. I've just sent a note to Simon about the rank issue ....Could you please clarify what Hpt. is the abreviation for ? I made an assumption that is was captain only to be told Hptn was captain and Hpt was a warrant officer. This seems a key point. re all of your info, my German is rather sparse so am off to a bookstore to ensure I understand more....re associate membership , where can I send my cheque and payable to who? many thanks Grahame

The abbreviation for Hauptmann (captain) is Hptm. repeat Hptm.

The abbreviation Hpt. (Haupt-) never stands alone and is always followed by something else, e.g., Hptfrtfhr. (Hauptfrontführer), Hpt.Bhf. (Hauptbahnhof), Hpt.Laz. (Hauptlazarett), etc.

Your friend is getting his wires crossed a little. He's thinking of Hauptfeldwebel, an appointment rather than a rank but would equate to a company first sergeant, that abbreviation however would have an fw at the end. Hptfw.

Larry's quite correct re. Hptm. though interestingly the German Military Dictionary published by the war department in '44 uses Hpt.

                Hpt.Strippel

Thanks for the info...I double checked the holster ..it does read: Hpt.Strippel...I think also that the space in this area limits the amount he could write....i.e.no space for a Jon or Willie etc...the clam shaped double radius and the amount of flat space up to the tool holder is not much...maybe that's the reason for the shortage of info. anyway Simon , Adrian and Larry I appreciate the help.....Grahame

Hi Grahame, sorry I was going to reply to you earlier about membership but I got sidetracked.

You can pay online if you wish by Credit Card. Go to the "A Member" tab top right of this page under the pic of the German soldiers.

Go here for info on other payment methods:

                  http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=214070

The rank abrieviation sounds possible due to the space limitations. To be honest I failed to notice it was done like that in your initial post.

                  Cheers, Ade.

                    Hans Strippel

I wonder if I could ask another question re this fellow...I have seen several photos of him and it seems he is in an SS uniform...black uniform with skull and crossed bones on his lapels.....yet in the bio and other info on him it does not make mention of the SS....could he have transferred to the SS late in the war ? or...............? any help would be appreciated...Grahame Smith

Another thought, the rank of Hpt. Strippel being Oberfeldwebel as shown numerous times does not tally with SS ranks ? does it ? Grahame

black uniform with skull and crossed bones on his lapels
was worn by the Heeres Panzertruppen (tank or armour troops of the regular army). So don't think SS every time you see a black uniform. The black SS uniform had the SS runes on the collar, whereas the black tankers uniform of the Army did not. Hauptmann and Oberfeldwebel were not SS ranks.

                            Hello

In the "Rangliste des deutschen Heeres 44/45" there was no Strippel.
It could be that he wasn`t Major at this time, or another idea of me is, that the Hpt. stands for Hauptfeldwebel. Than he was a NCO and the Spieß of a coy.

                            Best regards, Fronti
