The seller is quite knowledgeable and I have no doubt of the Waffenfarbe. Lexicon der Wehrmacht is a wonderful tool, but: I believe there are some gaps in it. I looked through, Panzer, Schuetzen, Panzerjaeger, and Panzeraufklaerungs, but have not found anything with that number. I thought maybe someone had a Tessin series and could match it up.
My question is in regard to these shoulder straps that are for sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/WWII-German-Panz...QQcmdZViewItem

I have the completed published set of Tessin. I looked there first to see if it was there or if there was anything even close. It was only then that I went to Lexikon so I wouldn't have to re-type the same block from Tessin. Pz.Pi.Btl. 98 is the only one. It seems to me that the "knowledgeable seller" would have anticipated that prospective bidders would check Lexikon and/or Tessin and, not finding it there, would raise questions. Assuming he is an honest seller, he would then include a few sentences explaining why it isn't in Tessin/Lexikon so the prudent bidder isn't scared off.

Definitely no Pz.Abt.98 or panzerjäger abt.98. There was an Artillerie Rgt.98 but it does look a bit too light for artillery red. There was also PanzerGrenadier Rgt.98. I'm not sure if either it or Pz.Pi.Btl.98 could have personnel that would belong to the panzertruppe rather than black pionier or green Pz.Gren.
The only other thing i can think of (unless of course they're fake) is that there was a Panzerjäger Kompanie 98 or some other kompanie or smaller sized unit that would wear panzer pink.

I know this seller and he is a collector first and seller second. I don't question his integrity; he has contributed to many of the insignia books on the market.
I collect shoulder straps that have tangible links to units is why I was asking. Thank you for taking the time to look through your Tessin books; I greatly appreciate it.
Because until 1941 Kradschützen did also have pink Waffenfarbe it could also be the Kradmeldezug 98 with Fp.Nr.02987 of the Divisionskommando 98.Inf.Div.

Are you sure pink would be correct for a motorcycle platoon in an infantry division and not yellow or copper brown?

It was pink from 1935 - 1941 where it was changed to copperbrown with HM41 Nr.1069 of 28.10.1941. A planed change in 1939 did not take place. Before the Kradschützen were disbanded and reformed to Aufkl.Abt. in 1943 the possible colours were white, goldyellow, green, pink or copperbrown.
