    Jagerregiment 42 (L)

Ive just received a SWB Urkunde to an Leutnant in the above mentioned unit. Im assuming the JR 42 is the same as IR 42 but the (L) is perplexing me. Can someone shed some light on its presence in the unit name? The (L) is present in the unit stamp and the writing accompanying the signature of the officer signing the urkunde, a Haputmann. What is also getting me is that is the urkunde is dated Januray 45 why is the unit still called JR 42 and not GR 42?

Anyhow here is a scan or two of the Urkunde, there is nothing about it that makes me suspect it as it compares well to other WB Urkundes in my collection.

    many thanks

    Jonathan

      Hi Jonathan,

From origin it was a Luftwaffe unit, that is where the L stands for.

      <BIG><BIG><BIG>Jäger-Regiment 42 (L)</BIG></BIG></BIG>

Infanterie-Division.

      yours friendly

Thanks Eric, and heres me thinking that linking the (L) to the Luftwaffe was too simple an answer lol.

        many thanks
