Leading figures of the SS losing their SS civilian pins

    Hi

I thought that fellow forum members may find this interesting and maybe amusing.

During my research on the SS civilian pin (SS-Zivilabzeichen) I have come across a few leading personalities in the SS who lost their pin and had it duely reported as such.

I imagine it was more than slightly embarrassing for the likes of Himmler to have this in print for all to see.

For the princely sum of 0.25RM, he could have purchased a brass keeper to ensure that the pin would have been kept in place on his lapel. Given that 1RM was worth roughly the equivalent of $0.40 in 1940, it was hardly an expensive item.

I can just imagine Himmler getting ready for going out in his civvies and asking Mrs Himmler 'Have you seen my pin anywhere, darling?

One of the interesting aspects to come out of this, is that I was able to identify that Dietrich was not issued with SS-ZA Nr#7 is always reported as that is the number that appears on his Fuhrerstammkarte, but he actually received Nr#6. I have confirmed this information by looking at the list of early recipients.

Anyway, here are Himmler's and Dietrich's reporting of their mislaid pins.

Maybe you will find it as amusing as I did!

    Raymond
